Trash the dress | Festival of colors style

Wow, I don’t know how to explain how excited I was a couple months ago when Alicia contacted me to do a Trash the Dress shoot for them. I knew Alicia and Gary really appreciate fun, stylish photos, so I had to ask them if they would be willing to color their outfits, including her wedding dress! I first met Alicia and Gary over a year ago, when I did a maternity shoot for them. Alicia looked absolutely stunning pregnant, and now I got to see her as a bride too! What can I say, they both are amazing people, they adore each other, they never said no to my crazy ideas and the camera loves them! What else can a photographer ask for? It was a lot of fun doing their trash the dress shoot, we started at the train tracks in East London, where workers were fixing up part of the tracks and they wouldn’t allow us to shoot, but somehow we managed to convince them, maybe it was the Mexican charm lol, so thank you to the guards and workers who helped us out so we could do a few shots at the tracks. I must also thank my second and third shooters Shawn Swart and Ane Rademeyer, it was awesome working with both of you, sharing ideas and creating awesome images!

After we finished at the train tracks we headed towards an amazing spot, an abandoned building, a little spooky I must say! We ended the day celebrating Holi! I was so excited, I’ve been wanting to go to India during Holi Festival, since the first time I saw photos in a National Geographic Magazine -looon time ago- I was completely amazed by the happiness, colors and spirit of the Festival of Colors. Holi Festival is celebrated by hindus, during the beginning of spring, to celebrate the victory of good over evil; what a perfect way to celebrate LOVE! This year, Holi Festival was celebrated just a few days before our shoot, so we got into the Festival of Colors spirit! I am still amazed by the brightness of the scented powder they use for this festival, the colors are absolutely stunning, hard to believe they are real! So after the “coloring” of the dress was over, Alicia ended up with a very bright pink bridal dress!

So maybe I haven’t gotten to celebrate Holi in India, but after all these years of only hoping to be in India during the Festival of Colors, at least I got to celebrate it in a small version in South Africa with awesome photographers and even more awesome bride and groom!

Check out my favorite photos from Shawn and Ane at the end of the post, you guys did an amazing job capturing the moments from different angles!

               ♥   HAPPY HOLI!
